Marketing and Business Ownership – 600 hours
The Marketing and Business Ownership Program prepares students for employment in Marketing occupations and/or to open a face-to-face or internet-based business. After successfully completing the three-course sequence that comprise the program which includes Sales Person, Retail, Marketing Managers, and Business Ownership/General Manager, the student will be proficient in demonstrating the following knowledge, skills and abilities: (1) Technology literacy and related software applications; (2) Entrepreneurship; (3) Applications of distribution, merchandising, financing, product & service planning, pricing, selling, purchasing, advertising & sales promotion, and safety/risk management; (4) problem solving & critical thinking skills; (5) Money management; (6) Economic principals; (7) Global business trends; (7) Effective communication; and (8) Human relations skills necessary for success in the field.
Students who complete the Marketing and Business Ownership Program are prepared to secure a job in the following areas: retail and wholesale sales & management; warehousing & distribution, purchasing/buying, advertising, mass media, social media & public relations, banking, and hospitality & tourism. In addition, students learn about entrepreneurship as a career path worthy of consideration. They are given the skills needed to realistically evaluate their potential as a business owner, and develop the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to start and operate a business. The planning and operation of a simulated business are an important part of the instruction of this course.
