English for Speakers of Other Languages ESOL
The English for Speakers of Other Languages program prepares non-native English learners with the skills they need to work successfully in the United States. The classes prepare students to communicate in English, to improve job skills and to further their technical and academic studies. Classes focus on life skills, reading, test taking skills, listening, speaking and writing. Our beginning classes prepare students to enter the ELCATE classes where the focus is on all aspects of attaining a career.
For the student who needs to improve basic skills requirements to succeed in a certificate program and/or in the workplace. Reading, Math, and Language instruction is provided. There is a $15 nonrefundable assessment fee and $20 Student Activity fee per year in addition to tuition.
ABE is an individualized, self-paced program to assist the student in raising their Basic Skills scores in Reading, Math, and Language. The course is designed for students who score below the sixth grade level on the Tests of Adult Basic Education (TABE). There is a $15 nonrefundable assessment fee and $20 Student Activity fee per year in addition to tuition.
The Tests of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) was developed to measure basic essential skills in the academic content areas of Reading, Mathematics, Science, and Language usage. These entry level skills were deemed important for nursing program applicants by a panel of nursing program curriculum experts. McFatter Technical College’s acceptable scores on the ATI TEAS, is a proficient level or 55.0% overall. Enrollment in the TEAS Prep course includes a $20 Student Activity fee per year in addition to tuition.
