Differences Between Trade Schools and Vocational Schools

If you’re thinking about continuing your education, we applaud your decision! While it’s a great choice to continue learning, a traditional college or university setting may not be the right choice for everyone. Depending on your career aspirations and future goals, it may be more beneficial to register with one of our trade schools or vocational schools.

Trade school

What Is a Trade School?

A trade school is a secondary learning center that exists to teach skilled trades. In general, trade schools focus their curriculum on hands-on careers that require a certification or a designated number of on-the-job hours to enter.

Our trade schools offer training in various fields, such as transportation, distribution, and logistics. When you complete a course like our car repair certification program, you’ll receive a certificate that describes your education, skills, experience, and level of tested knowledge.

If you’re eager to launch a new career, you may want to sign up for one of our rapid credentialing programs. These programs typically enable people to start working in a new field comparatively quickly.

What Is a Technical School?

It’s impossible to understand the difference between trade schools and vocational schools without knowing what a technical school is. Put simply, a tech school awards students with associate’s degrees and certifications that are required for them to seek employment in technical fields, like IT.

In most cases, it takes enrollees one to two years to earn a degree or certification from a technical school. Courses at a tech school may involve more hands-off classroom instruction and lectures than programs at a trade school.

What Is a Vocational School?

Our Broward County, FL campuses include a mix of technical schools, trade schools, and vocational schools, and there are valid reasons to apply to any one of them. “Vocational school” is an umbrella term that can accurately refer to a technical school, a trade school, or both. In other words, a vocational school is any secondary learning center that prepares students to immediately enter their chosen field within 12 – 24 months.

If you’re looking for trade schools in Florida or you want to enroll with a technical school, our vocational schools are just what you’ve been searching for. Reach out to Broward Technical Colleges to learn more about the programs we offer and to see how you can become part of our growing educational community. We look forward to helping you launch a successful career in a new field.
